UK Government is pursuing a quicker review of gambling companies’ sponsorship agreements with football clubs
The UK government announced its speeding up of its review into sponsorship agreements between football clubs and gambling operators, due to the increasing number of anti-gambling campaigners who have been calling the authorities to ban these sponsorships.
At the moment, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is carrying out an audit into the country’s gambling regulations, and this will not necessarily bode well for the relationship between the gambling industry and professional football.
The process of this inspection will supposedly involve providing the country’s gambling operators to share their perspectives on the review that will be being conducted by the government, which is estimated to last for around three months
The whole point of the campaigners is that they claim that betting sponsor adverts in the leagues normalizes gambling in football. Currently, 8 out of the 20 clubs in the English Premier League have gambling companies as their sponsors, and most especially this year, their relationships have been very beneficial for both parties.
