The Government of the South American country of Argentina has taken the decision to officially raise tax generated through online gaming come 2021
Online gambling is in its infancy within the South American region and thus, has only just been regulated, but this does not seem to discourage authorities from approving a tax increase for the sector. Such a rise on tax will see online operators pay 5% which is a 3% increase from 2020.
The industry within some provinces has many unclear and scarce regulations. Some regions are only approving draft regulations now, whilst the remaining are in the process of building short term regulations. However, a minority of provinces, such as Santa Fe, has seen provisional authorisations which permits casino operators to provide vast online services even though such regulations have not been discussed by local congress.
The Capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires are in the final stages of having bills ready for final approval by the regulators. It was anticipated that the authorisation of online gaming and the reopening of the capitals casinos would happen together, however, the process has been delayed which has impacted the province of Buenos Aires, who approved online gambling in September 2020.
