British poker pro takes Las Vegas by storm with $765,200 win

Nick Marchington, a British poker pro, has cemented his place among poker’s top players by winning the NAPT Main Event at Resorts World Las Vegas, earning a prize of $765,200. The event saw 895 players battle it out over five days, between November 1 to 10, with Marchington delivering a commanding performance to secure the coveted trophy.

Marchington’s rise to poker stardom

Marchington’s victory is yet another milestone in his already impressive poker career. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the 26-year-old reflected on his journey: “New highlight of my poker career. Feel so grateful I’ve been able to call this a job for five years now. Through the highs and lows, I feel blessed. Thanks so much for the support family & friends.”

The North American Poker Tour returned to Resorts World for its second tournament in as many years. Players from around the globe competed for a share of the $4 million prize pool. Marchington, hailing from Hornchurch, London, England, stood out with a consistent and strategic approach that saw him dominate from start to finish.

Marchington’s road to victory was no easy feat. Facing off against seasoned professionals, he entered the final table with a commanding chip lead and maintained his composure throughout. His calculated decisions and ability to read opponents proved decisive as he methodically eliminated competitors.

A pivotal moment came during heads-up play, where Marchington outmanoeuvred his opponent to claim the win. His victory not only earned him the lion’s share of the prize pool but also reinforced his reputation as one of poker’s rising stars.

This is not Marchington’s first brush with poker fame. In 2019, at just 21 years old, he made headlines by finishing seventh in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, taking home $1.525 million. Since then, he has continued to build on his success, demonstrating remarkable skill and resilience in one of the world’s most challenging competitive arenas.

Marchington shared with Poker.org, “We sat down for heads-up, and on the break, I went through my normal routine, going for a walk on my own and just listening to music. I prepared myself for a potentially long heads-up match.

“And then I sat down, and the entire final hand, which was the only hand of heads-up, lasted about 45 seconds. It took me a while to actually process that I had won because it was all over in a flash.”

Marchington’s win is also a point of pride for the UK poker community. As one of the youngest players to achieve such consistent success, he serves as an inspiration to aspiring players.

With this latest victory, Marchington has firmly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of poker. As he continues to climb the ranks, fans and competitors alike will watch closely to see what’s next for the Hornchurch sensation.
