    1. EU nationals are allowed to enter Italy by only carrying an identification document.
    2. Non-EU nationals need to show the following documents at the Italian port of entry;

    – A valid passport or travel document. (Valid for at least six more months beyond your planned date of exit from Schengen and issued within the last 10 years.)

    – A Visa (if you are subject to the Italian Visa regime.)

    – Travel Health Insurance. (Covering medical emergencies in Italy and the whole Schengen area for a minimum of €30,000.)

    Please, make sure that the Italian Border Officer stamps your passport when you enter Italy. Without a stamp, you could be fined or detained.

The time required by regulations for issuing visas varies according to the type of visa. Schengen visas (i.e. short-stay visas) take 15 days, which can be extended up to 45 days in the cases provided for by law (Article 23 of the Visa Code).

  • Proof that the applicant has sufficient means of subsistence as required by the Directive of the Ministry of the Interior dated 1st March 2000. 
  • Supporting documentation in relation to the applicant’s social and professional status
  • Health insurance covering a minimum of €30,000 for emergency hospitalisation and repatriation expenses, valid throughout the Schengen area.
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking, declaration of hospitality, declaration whereby accommodation costs shall be borne by the person inviting).
